Shawnee Mission Northwest held the third annual district dodgeball tournament. The NW team Abusement Park won. The funds will be given to the Johnson County Christmas Bureau.

The Shawnee Mission district dodgeball tournament was held April 20 in the main gym. The competing team were invited after winning their school’s tournament.

“We tried to get the event on the calender early this year, and we did very well at getting it organized this year and setting it up as well as we could,” Student Council sponsor Sarah Dent said.

The NW team, The Abusement Park, with captain Jackson Foth, won the district tournament, only losing one game in the first round to SM West. In second place was the SM West team, Chupicabras, and in third was Team Extreme from SM North.

Abusement Park team members included Foth, Stephen Mangelsdorf, Eric Pinkelman, Mikala Modiri, Drew Goodger and Blake Evans.

“The best game we played was our last one against West. They beat us in the round robin part of the tournament, and we ended up playing very well in the championship,” Foth said.

The nearly $200 raised was for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. As well as selling the tickets, there was also a bake sale.

”We raised about $160 from ticket sales and $40 from the bake sale. The money was raised for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau which ties into our care with the community drive that we did a few weeks ago,” Dent said.
