Finding a good balance with food can be incredibly hard in a society built on diet culture and glorified binge eating, telling you to be a part of said extremes. Here are some tips to make it easier
- Try to avoid food related content in the media. Focus on what you are eating, not others. Cater your platform to your interests such as sports, crafts or reading, not food.
- Make balanced plates. When plating a meal focus on having a balanced portion of carbs, proteins, fats and fiber. Remember to also stay hydrated as much as you can, water has benefits you wouldn’t even realize to your hunger and mind.
- Though it can be hard, try to tune into your body and listen to what it tells you. If you feel hungry, have a snack. Make sure to eat to fit the hunger levels of your feeling at that moment. If you feel full stop eating, you can always save it for later.
- Have fun. Food is not meant to be emotional and if it is, you’re not alone but, if your friends are grabbing sonic on the way to the game go with them! If a classmate brings cookies, join in! Social and emotional health are just as important as physical health.
5. If you are struggling, please reach out to someone. Whether that’s a teacher, a loved one, or a friend. You can also call ANAD, an eating disorder help line, 1-888-375-7767 or Text NEDA to 741741 anytime or place.
