“It was an amazing feeling knowing that all the hard work and discipline had finally paid off” senior Zach Newcomb said after himself and nine other team members qualified to compete at the state wrestling tournament.
At the sunflower league state tournament, NW finished 26th out of 32 teams overall as a team, and the team’s overall score was a 15.
“Win or lose, they did their best,” head coach Howard Newcomb said. “They worked hard the whole season to get in that position; they all prepared like champions and put up a fight.”
The team’s dual record for this entire season was six wins and two losses which was improvement from last year’s team. The team this year beat all of the other SM schools in the district tournament, winning the entire tournament.
“ felt awesome; I was ecstatic that the guys were fired up and the coaches were excited,” Newcomb said. “It was one of those things we’ve battled and trained all year long to make sure we are in a position to get out there and preform.”
