A hard-fought game ended in a 1-0 loss for boys varsity soccer at the hands of Rockhurst.
The score came from an unlucky cross that slipped into the goal as the first half ticked away.
“We needed to not allow the game to come down to one defensive play,” coach Todd Boren said.
In the second half junior goalie Eric Zoellner made a few great saves that would have otherwise put the cougars in an even bigger hole. Missed opportunities on free-kicks also hurt the team.
“The effort and the heart was there but we need to work on possessing the ball and staying calm on the ball,” senior center midfielder Adam Zoellner said.
Coaches and players said the ultimate defeat came from not connecting passes to the forwards throughout the entire game.
The loss dropped the team’s overall record to 3-1, but the team remains 3-0 in the Sunflower League.
