Senior Sam Mccrillis has led the Cougars offensively so far this season, but he really broke out against Leavenworth. Mccrillis had scored a hat trick less than halfway through the second half before him and most other seniors were pulled by coach Todd Boren to allow some of the younger players to see the field. The Cougars controlled the ball for most of the game, leading the Pioneers in total shots on goal. The Pioneers only goal came on a late offensive spurt in the second half, when the Cougars essentially already had the win.
“I think tonight we saw some definite improvement as far as being more dynamic in the attacking third,” Boren said of the Cougars offensive domination.
“Obviously some mental lapses along the way, but overall some of the things we needed to improve on, we improved on.”
The Cougars look forward to their meeting with rival SM West next Tuesday at 7:00, at the SMAC complex.
