During the Sweetheart Assembly, senior Cynthia Chen performs her cheer routine Feb. 3 in the Main Gym. Every routine beings with a cheer and ends with a dance. “Dancing has always been a crucial part of cheer,” Chen said. “It demonstrates the musicality and athleticism of a cheerleader, it also makes the overall routine more enjoyable to watch and helps move the crowd more than just cheer and stunts.”

Lightening up the mood, senior Sydney Jackson messes with senior Brody Carlson with a stuffed animal Jan. 21 in Room 151. The name “Scrappy” was given to the stuffed dog due to the stuffing coming out of its nose and the lumpiness of the dog. “I would say that Scrappy is a nice mascot for Brody and I because even though we may look and feel exhausted sometimes, we still have fun,” Jackson said.

Preparing for the spring musical, junior Ellison Bonge paints signs Jan. 16 in the auditorium backstage room. The signs will be used outdoors to promote the upcoming musical “Once Upon A Mattress”. “I think the outdoor signs will help out a lot,” Bonge said. “Not only are they promoting to our school's community, but to the Shawnee community as well.”
