The gymnastics team has been working hard all season and have been met with impressive results.
“We have placed in the upper 33 percent at all of our meets,” coach Cindy Beason said. “They are doing well. There is always room for improvement, but they work very hard.”
The girls placed fourth in the Sunflower League with a score of 99.85 in League Championships, held at Lawrence High on Oct. 13.
The team this year consists of 16 girls, much larger than in years past. Beason has noticed the superior talent that some girls have shown, noting juniors Grace Gregory and Mallory Wilhite and senior Caitlin Chen.
“Gregory and Wilhite are strong in the all around,” Beason said, “and Chen is a specialist this year and is prominent on the beam and floor.”
Although Beason is new to her position this year, her coaching style has seemed beneficial for the girls.
“I am very proud to be their coach,” Beason said. “Whatever the results of the state meet, I will be very proud of the girls. They are a very talented group to coach and I have enjoyed every minute of it.”
