Junior Varsity and Varsity softball players hosted a Little Cougar Softball Clinic Mar.28. Players worked with girls grades 3-8 on hitting, fielding and out fielding. Players also handed out t-shirts and made bows for their little Cougars in addition to inviting them to a game this season.
“We had 22 girls for the first year of our clinic, which was a huge turnout,” assistant varsity coach Laura Ramsey said.
The first two varsity games of the season were played Mar. 31, at the Shawnee Mission School District Softball complex.
“Both were really difficult teams and the girls played well against them,” assistant varsity coach Laura Ramsey said. “I think a lot of people were anticipating that we would lose by a lot more, especially for our first game.”
Although the girls lost 0-5 against Olathe South, they scored their first double play of the season. They lost the second game, 3-4.
“You don’t really know what you are getting into until the first game,” Ramsey said. “You really see how the girls mesh together, and you also learn things you need to work on, too. It’s not all fun and games.”
The varsity team plays at 4:15 p.m. today in Leavenworth.
