At their last meeting before Spring Break, Girl Effect discussed speakers for their event Girl Effect Live. They decided on people they wanted to bring in, and have already cleared the event with principal Lisa Gruman. The speaker they wanted to invite, however, was not cleared by sponsor Debra Brewer. According to Brewer, these events are not getting planned and will not be happening before the end of the school year.
“I would love to talk with you for 15 minutes about all the great things they are doing,” Brewer said. “But they aren’t.”
The meeting the week after Spring Break was canceled. Brewer indicated that leaders are not coming to the meetings are not following through with the events they wanted to host. Brewer thinks the club will be disbanded.
“It is a worthy club,” Brewer said. “But there needs to be leadership.”
