Boys’ Basketball defeated by SM East, losing 66-52

Tuesday night the varsity boys’ basketball team took on Shawnee Mission East and lost 66-52 in a hard-fought game.

East junior Vance Wentz whose season-high game of 33 points along with the rest of the team’s sharpshooting pulled the team past the Cougars.

Throughout most of the first half the Cougars remained within striking distance, holding the Lancers to a margin of seven points.

Unfortunately this margin began to increase quickly as the second half progressed. Seniors Bill Graves and Jackson Foth tried to get the team going with a late run in the beginning of the third quarter but to no avail.

“We really just needed more rebounds. They killed us on the boards,” senior Blake Evans said.

The student section began to quiet down as the clock wound down. With the loss last night the Cougars move to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Sunflower League.
