Northwest took on the Leavenworth Pioneers on Oct. 6 at SMAC. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the junior varsity and varsity Cougars sported pink uniforms in place of their white home jerseys.
The Cougars knew coming into the match it was going to be a relatively easy game. The 10-0 mercy rule had been used numerous times with the weak Pioneer team. This game was no exception. After the first half, the Cougars lead the Pioneers with a score of 6-0. After Northwest had secured a strong lead, many players from junior varsity were brought up to gain varsity experience.
Even without the starters playing, the Cougars managed to reach the 10-goal mark and the game was ended with 12:45 left to play. Seniors Bill Kolega, David Fancher, and Connor Holman all scored and freshmen Cole Nelson and Ethan Bowman both added to the Cougar’s rout of the Pioneers.
Bowman’s goal was the first of his high school career and hopes for more to come.
“I’m glad I got the first goal off my chest,” Bowman said. “Now I can relax and play without having to worry about scoring before he season ends.”
