The boys’ varsity soccer team beat Lawrence Free State 2-1 Saturday, despite a scoreless first half.
“We started out really slow, but I’m glad we picked it up and got better as the game went on,” center midfielder Adam Zoellner said.

The Cougars’ goals came from defender Colby Weishaar and midfielder Logan Kniesly. The first goal was off of a corner kick from sophomore Cody Sliva, who passed it short to junior David Fancher, and then Weishaar scored. Kniesly chipped the keeper, and the ball went off of the cross bar into the goal.
“I felt like we were prepared. But to be prepared, and to come out and execute, are two different things,” said head coach Todd Boren.
Next week will be a tough one with Senior Night on Tuesday against Olathe South, and another game on Thursday against Olathe East.
