Tryouts for the Cougar Classics Dance Team typically happen the last week of March, but were postponed until July 6 through July 8 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The tryout was condensed from a week-long process into a two-day tryout clinic to learn material, followed by a shortened audition slot the following day. Following guidelines from the district, the tryout clinic was entirely outdoors, socially-distanced and was divided into two shifts to reduce the number of people on the field at one time. Coaches and dancers were required to bring a mask, but only required to wear it when coming within six feet of one another. Dancers were then assigned a time slot for their individual tryout July 8, which was recorded and sent to a panel of judges.
