Information on local restaurants during COVID-19

Ally Pruente, Staff Writer

Supporting local restaurants during a pandemic is just one thing we can do to bring us closer together and keep these businesses up and running.

Some restaurants are still offering services such as delivery, curbside pickup, and pick up for mobile orders. While this has been a challenge for all restaurants, small, local ones are taking a bigger hit because they aren’t supported by big franchises. It’s important that we continue to buy from restaurants to help keep them afloat. Here is how some local restaurants are coping with COVID-19, and how you can still order and support them.

Many local breakfast restaurants and coffee shops are still open and accepting orders during this time. The Big Biscuit in Shawnee is offering contactless order pick-up, in which you can order online and pick up your food from a designated shelf. This tactic is very common among restaurants so that customers can receive their order without making contact with employees. Ronnie’s Restaurant in Lenexa is also offering to-go orders on their website, and a long menu to pick from. Eggtc. is offering delivery, take-out and curbside pick-up at their South Plaza location, but they are not offering these options at their Shawnee location. The Filling Station in Mission offers coffee and other drinks. You can also now order online and over the phone to go! Black Dog Coffeehouse is offering take-out and delivery during their hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. These are just a few of the popular morning time spots in our area that are still offering services to the public; check out your other favorites online to see if they are still open!

For lunch and dinner restaurants, many of the same strategies apply to get orders out. Zarda Bar-B-Q in Lenexa is offering to-go orders as well as a full drive-thru. Jack Stack Barbeque is offering curbside carryout and delivery – they’re “proud to announce local delivery with a condensed menu featuring hot and cold packed options for you and your family,” said the Jack Stack team in Lenexa on their website. Paulo and Bill is doing mobile orders through Grubhub and Doordash (online food delivery services) as well as take-out and curbside pickup. You can order by visiting their website or calling in your order at their Shawnee location.

With the new safety rules in place due to COVID-19, restaurants are taking new precautions to stay safer than ever. “Contactless Order Pickup allows you to enjoy The Big Biscuit on your terms,” said the Big Biscuit team on their website. With new standards on health and safety, restaurants are taking their time to keep our orders safe by providing contactless ordering, paying and pick-up.

By ordering take-out, we can really do our part in keeping our local restaurants alive. All around Kansas City, these places could really use our help to keep their business up and running during these difficult times.
