    Hello NW! We are underway in Week 2 of the Canned Food Drive, to benefit the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. TODAY is CANSAS SPORTS DAY with cans & boxed goods worth double points.  It’s great to see those favorite Kansas Sports Team colors today and let’s continue tomorrow with wearing GREEN, since it is CASH day! ALL monies donated are worth DOUBLE TOMORROW!  

     

    Congratulations to the following Cougar musicians for their placement by audition in the Northeast Kansas District Honor Ensembles.  From the band; Concert band – Sara Blunk, Parker Kremeier, Tevyn Pak, Sophia Hollman, Andrew Andersen, Reid Thornburg, Ben Basel, Astrid Altamarano, Amelia Guglielmi, Jacob Statton and Gage Oberheu. Alternates – Greta Christianson & Jack Zumalt.   From the Jazz Band; Barclay Raith, Sophia Hollman, Andrew Andersen & Jacob Stratton.  From the Choir; Sam Athey and June Alcala.   From the Orchestra; Paige Jones, Amelia Hoelting, McKenzie Johnson, Hannah Gruman and Marlaina Markwart.  Again, Congratulations to these amazing young musicians!

     

    Counseling

    A representative from the United States Naval Academy will be visiting Shawnee Mission Northwest next Monday, November 23rd at 9:00 am to discuss the opportunities the Naval Academy has to offer future leaders.  See Mrs. Alvey in the office to sign up for the visit.

     

    Athletics

    Freshmen boys basketball players need to report to the main gym at 6:00 for your tryout tonight.  Practice will not begin at 3:00 as originally announced.  AGAIN – Freshmen boys basketball report to the main gym at 6:00 tonight.

     

    ALL Northwest student/athletes interested in competing this spring on the track and field team- Sign-Ups continue throughout this week in the mall during all three lunch periods. Come out and meet our two most famous coaches — Coach Stiegemeier and Coach Ratzlaff

                    

    Any Northwest student/athlete interested in a winter conditioning program we will meet TODAY after school at 3:20pm outside room 135.  Come prepared in workout clothes and proper running shoes. If you have any questions – see Coach Cooper in room 203.

     

    If you were a Fall Athlete, please listen up!!!!!  If you earned a letter or a numeral in your fall sport, and would like the numeral, letter or pin, PLEASE see Mrs. Forbes in Room 18 to collect your award.  You can stop in before or after school, or during a seminar.  Please collect any awards BEFORE the end of the semester.

     

    Any student athlete interested in trying out for bowling should plan to attend an informational meeting on Thursday either before school or after school in rm 153. The morning meeting will start at 7:15 and the after school meeting will start at 2:45 in 153. We will talk about tryouts and the season. If you cannot attend, please see Coach Dent in rm 153 on Friday to get information. Let’s roll!

     

    Attention all girls that are interested in trying out for soccer in the spring, there will be a brief meeting on Thursday, November 18th in room 120 at 2:50 with Coach Boren.  We will discuss preseason conditioning and tryouts in the spring.  If you cannot attend the meeting, please see Coach Boren prior to Thursday.

     

    Clubs:

    Youth and Government participants please make sure you attend the quick meeting after school TODAY at 2:50pm in room 122.  We will get last minute info for the trip!  If you have concerns, see Mrs. LaMourie.

     

    A BIG shout out and Congratulations to the NW Media students who returned from the National Journalism convention in Orlando.  The NW Passage was awarded the Pacemaker. This award is the Pulitzer Prize of high school journalism. The staff also placed 4th in Best of Show for newspaper and 9th in Specialty Issue.  The yearbook placed 2nd in Best of Show. Individually, 13 of 15 students placed in the National Write-off. Here are their awards:  Austin Barbour and Sean Fitzgerald: Excellent in News Package;  Lucas Silva: Honorable mention in Videography;  Chandler Bado: Honorable mention in First Year Photo;  Maya Lee: Excellent in Portrait photography;  Alexa Styers: Superior in Newspaper News/Feature Photography;  Emilie Amunatigui: Superior in Yearbook Sports Photography;  Bryce Rex: Excellent in Newspaper Sports Photography; Jordan Arnold: Honorable Mention in Yearbook Copy Clubs;  Tess Holcom: Honorable Mention in Yearbook Copy Academics and Austin Bachert: Excellent in Yearbook Copy Sports.  Be sure to CONGRATULATE these students as you see them today.

     

    Come join us for Not-So-Late-Night banner making tonight at 6:30pm in the basement by rooms M & N! Pizza, soda, painting and friends, what more could you need?! See ya there!

     

    Tomorrow is the LAST DAY to purchase this year’s Not-So-Late-Night shirt! A table will be in the mall during all three lunches to purchase a long sleeve for $15 or a short sleeve for $10! You won’t want to miss out on these rad shirts!

     

    Like sandwiches?  Like jazz?  You’re in luck!  Come support the Northwest Jazz Band this Thursday night, 6:30pm at Planet Sub at 75th and Quivira.  Eat a sandwich while listening to the jazz band play some great music!
