    11-9-15 Announcements 

    “BE THE CHANGE” drive starts TODAY for this week’s Canned Food Drive 5th hour class competition.   Coins will be collected this week, starting today with pennies, so check your pockets, backpacks and lockers and donate to your 5th hour class.   Bring your nickels and dimes tomorrow, and quarters on Wednesday to your 5th hour class.  All these donations will benefit the Johnson County Christmas Bureau!  Continuing Nov. 16-20, we will encourage classes to bring in canned goods and cash to your 5thhour class so your class can win the competition for large, medium, and small classes. See Drew Vanderleest or Mrs. Dent with questions!  Thanks everyone for participating!

     

    Attention all current and new NHS members: NHS inductions will be held in Greg Parker Auditorium tonight, Nov. 9th. Report time for Inductees is 6:20pm and attire is business casual. Report time for returning members of NHS is 6:35pm in business casual attire as well. If you have questions, find Mrs. Boren or Mr. Mach or any Exec. Board members. See you all tonight!

     

    Counseling: 

    Bring your parents to the Shawnee Mission Financial Aid Night here at Northwest Wednesday, Nov 11 at 6:30 p.m. Topics will include how to qualify and apply for college financial aid, scholarships, loans, grants and other resources, and how to complete the FAFSA.

     

    Athletics

    The SHAWNEE MISSION NORTHWEST CHEER AND YELL LEADERS had a wonderful Saturday at SM West for the Winter Warm Up Festival.  We took home 3 1-ratings, 3 2-ratings and 1 3-rating. Our overall team routine received a 2 rating after suffering a last minute injury.  Our 1-rating stunt routines teams consisted of Ginny Bohling, Tavin Cook, Carlee Dubbert, Allie Marx, and Courtney Pauli.  Brenyn Anothayanontha, Merissa Burch, Cami Payne, Maggie Preston, and Kati Sprang. Elizabeth Drummond, Kaitlin Ristic, Caymen Northrop, Lauren Sachen, and Emma Sanders.  A huge shout out to every single Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheer and Yell Leaders that performed on Saturday! Amazing job! WE ARE NORTHWEST!

     

    Attention female athletes interested in playing softball in the spring.  There will be an informational meeting after school in room 212. If you plan on participating in softball and can’t attend the meeting then you must see Coach Kinney ASAP.

     

    There will be a swim meeting tomorrow, Nov. 10th in cafeteria 1.

     

    Please join us in the cafeteria on Wed. Nov. 11th at 3pm to celebrate with Brenni Rose and Jared Marolf as they sign their Letter of Intent to play college sports.  Brenni will sign with Drake University to play basketball and Jared will sign with K-State University to play baseball. Congratulations Brennie and Jared!

     

    There is a short baseball meeting for any and all FRESHMAN and SOPHOMORES Thursday, November 12th at 715 am in room 228.

     

    Heads up Athletes! If you are planning on trying out for a winter sport you must have a physical turned in to the Athletic Office by noon this FRIDAY, 11/13. If you are not sure if you turned one in, please check with Mrs. Horseman in the Athletic Office before 11/13. 

     

    Clubs:

    “Congratulations to the debate squad for an outstanding performance at the Blue Valley Debate tournament.  In the open division Luke Miller were 4 and 1, and received an honorable mention.  In the novice division:  Hunter Bremenkamp and Lizzie Weems were also 4 and 1, receiving an honorable mention. Josh Marvine and Ashley Ellis had 5 wins and 0 losses, and brought home 3rd place. Overall, the Cougar Debate Squad place 4th in Sweeps.”

     

    SEEK is doing their semi-annual cookie decorating in room 105. Stop by today during lunch, after school or tomorrow before school to decorate your gift.

     

    Announcing …………the Marching Cougar Pride Light show will be TOMORROW at north Stadium at 6:15.  This is the last chance to see the band in performance for this year and there is no charge for admittance.  Come out and watch the Band “CHASE” away the lights in this last rendition of this year’s show the Music of Bill Chase.

     

    Chemistry Club will meet this Tuesday at 7:10 in Room 115. Join us for fun and snacks. We will discuss upcoming activities and membership in the American Chemical Society.

     

    Throughout the month of November, there will be writing programs and sessions to participate in National Novel Writing Month on Mondays after school and Thursdays during seminar in the Library. You will need to get a pass for seminar sessions so see Mrs. Stigge in the Library.  Come to just one session or come to them all – we’ll be there writing!

     

    Interested in technology? 3D printing? Lego Mindstorms? Come to the library this Thursday during seminar to see all of these items and more in action. There will even be time to play with them. See Mrs. Stigge in the library if you need a pink seminar pass to come.

     

    Attention all Juniors and Seniors: The Mother Son – Father Daughter Dance is this Saturday, November 14th! From 8-10 pm.  It’s a decade dance so dress up in your favorite decade! Admission is $5 per person and student I.D. is required. Also, canned goods, personal care items, and cash donations are accepted at the door.
