    5-4-15 Announcements

    Senior Final Exam Exemption Forms are now available in the office. If you are a senior and think you qualify to exempt from an exam, please pick up the form in the office and carefully read and follow the directions.  The forms must be complete and returned by this Wednesday, May 6th.
    Reminder to ALL students  –  Food may not be delivered from outside the building without prior permission of the building administration.
    Attention Rising Star Elementary graduates; there will be a Senior reception in the Rising Star Library, tomorrowMay 5th at 3:30pmin your honor.  Stop by and share you plans for after High School graduation, the staff would love to see you again.
    Seniors you are reminded to pick up your senior checkout sheets during your English class NEXT Monday, May 11.  You will need to get these sheets picked up and all the necessary signatures.  These sheets are required to get into graduation practice (and graduation practice is a requirement to take part in Commencement ceremonies).  Seniors who do not have an English class can get their checkout sheet from your counselor.  If questions see Ms. Schaufler or Mr. Giacalone.
    Counseling:
    Students taking afternoon AP exams should be dismissed from class at 11:45 to eat.  Students should report to their testing site by 11:40.
    If you plan to take the June ACT register online at ACT.org by this Friday in order to avoid a late fee.  The test is Saturday, June 13th, you can register to take it anywhere but you have to sign up by this Friday, May 8th.

     

    Athletics:
    Football players, grades 9-11, who are interested in playing next year are reminded that TONIGHT is Physical Night for Football Players.  Players are strongly encouraged to come to the event, which is from 6-8 p.m..  Players should enter on the west side of the building by the auxiliary gym area.  Cost is $20, with $10 going directly back into the program.  If making checks please make payable to SMNW Football Booster Club.  If you need a physical form, or have further questions see Mr. Giacalone in the athletic office.
    Any girl, grade 9-11, who is interested in being part of the SMNW Gymnastics Program, needs to come by on Wednesday, May 6that 2:45 p.m., for a brief meeting in CAFETERIA 1.  The meeting will be IMPORTANT to meet Coach Munoz, our new head coach, and receive information that will be necessary for helping you to prepare for the upcoming season.  Coach Munoz is EXCITED to meet everyone.  Hope to see a great turnout.  If questions prior to the meeting come to the athletic office and see Mr. Giacalone.
    Congrats to the boys’ Varsity tennis team placed 5th in the sunflower league. Zane Andruss won one match in singles to place 9th,  Matt Darpel with Jack Wells finished 6th in doubles.  Tyler Garland won 2 matches to get 6th  in singles plus Reagan Walsh with Nathan Schmidt won 2 matches to place 3rd in doubles.  The boys’ Varsity tennis team placed 2nd in the district tournament.  Austin Mitts won 2 matches and Matt Darpel with Jack Wells won 2nd at Dubs.    Winning 3 matches were Tyler Garland and Zane Andruss plus Reagan Walsh with Nill Patel and Gage Oberhue with Collin Anthony.  A big congrats singles Kyler Akagi & Sam Adams, Misha Ilich with Jonathan Vranicar and Jared Ray with Levi Van Hoecke for winning all 4 matches. Good luck in your last 2 duels this week.  Senior night is Tuesday.
    Any freshmen boy who is interested in trying out for basketball next season will need to attend a meeting Thursday morning at 7:20in room 228.  We will be outlining our summer workouts.  If you are planning on playing you need to attend the meeting.
    Reminder that this Thursday, May 7th is Senior Baseball Recognition Day.  We will honor our seniors before the 4:30 p.m. game vs Leavenworth.  In addition the Baseball Booster Club will have “Fan Appreciation Day” at the game with lots of giveaways and opportunities to win prizes as a way of thanking our student population for their GREAT support throughout the season.  Mark your calendar today, and we will see everyone at 3&2 on Thursday.
    Clubs
    Congratulations to the SMNW Poetry team for first place finish at the Shawnee Misson District Poetry SLAM.  Spencer Dang tied for individual first place; Alex Kendrick and Claire Hutchinson tied for second.  Sam Athey also contributed to the team’s first place finish.  Congratulations to the team for their continued district success!
    Attention all Link Crew Members: Please remember to get your Tuesday field trip form turning in TODAY to room 123.  See Wolfe, LaMourie, or Horner with questions.
    This past weekend, the Cougar Forensics Squad competed in the State Forensics Tournament.  And represented Northwest extremely well. Braden Pomerantz placed 7th in Lincoln Douglas Debate. Lily Ottinger took 6th in Dramatic Interpretation And Kenzi Parsons took 4th place in Prose Interpretation. Also competing at the State Tournament for Northwest were:  Jake Thomas, Tamerra Horton, Klaryssa Vincent, and Julian Kuffour.  Great weekend Cougar Forensics!”

    It is May so it is time for Princess Bride. Starting today, it will be shown I room 105 during 3rd lunch.

    There will be a Spanish National Honors Society meeting this Wednesday at 7:15 in room 109. Be sure to be there to say goodbye to our seniors!

    Spanish club meeting will be on Wednesday, May 6, in room 115 at 2:50.

    If you are a SEEK student and you haven’t started your handprint, come by room 105 any time today to MAKE YOUR MARK and put your handprint on the Class of 2015 wall hanging.
