    4-24-15 Announcements

    Come and see the fairytales unfold in Story Theatre! Tonight, Friday, and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Greg Parker Auditorium. Tickets are only $8 or free with an activity pass.

    The NW and Trailridge Jazz Bands will be performing at Planet Sub on Quivira tonight from 6 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. Hope you can join us!

    Congratulations to all the wonderful artists who contributed artwork to our 2015 Earth Day Art Show!!  Fabulous imagination, creativity and depth of work is on display in the student gallery.  A very special thank you to Mrs. Baker, Mrs. LaFever and Mr. Poplau for judging our show this year. It wasn’t an easy task for our judges but here are the results:  Drum roll please….  Tied for 5th is a collaboration by Anu Ittycheri, Lora Johnson and Mike Cardell. Their work tied with Arianna Michaelson’s.  4th place goes to Kylee Hartle.  3rd place goes to Jenae Moore with 2nd place going to Melissa Knox.  The first place winner is Jason Wang!  Well done, and remember to care for our Earth …. it is the only one we’ve got!!
    If you did not pre-order your Prom pictures at Prom and you want to buy Prom pictures, go to smnorthwest@smsd.org<mailto:smnorthwest@smsd.org> site and click on the announcements page. Follow the log in instructions that are in the written announcements.  You can place your order and you can also download your photo booth pictures for free from this Haley photography website.  If you pre-ordered Prom pictures, they will be delivered to NW next week. If you have questions, come by the main office.

    Seniors:  Please check the senior notices posted on the main office window to determine if you have any outstanding fees or fines. The lists will change throughout the upcoming weeks, so continued monitoring is recommended. Fees or fines that are not satisfied will result in the diploma being held until satisfied.

    Benninghoven Class of 2014 Senior Alumni Reception –  Any senior graduating this year that attended Benninghoven are invited to a reception in their honor on Tuesday, May 12 in the Benninghoven Library from 3:30-4:15pm. We look forward to seeing all Alumni again and finding out what their future plans are. We also have a few mementos of their younger days for them.

    Counseling:
    Seniors:  Don’t forget to check the Local Scholarships list in the Scholarships & Financial Aid google classroom. Several new scholarships have recently been added and some are available to only SMNW students. There are some organizations have not received very many applications so be sure to check the list and get your application submitted.
    Are you looking for a job?  Check the Job Board outside the counseling department for job information.
    Navy recruiters will be visiting NW during lunch next Wed April 29th.
    Are you interested in a medical-related career? The UMKC School of Medicine is hosting a summer exploration opportunity called Camp Cardiac from July 20-24th. The deadline is May 11th and space is limited. Some scholarships are still available. Go to campcardiac.org or see your counselor for more information.
    Athletics:
    Junior Varsity track and field athletes……..Those competing TODAY at SM West – you are excused at 1:45 from sixth hour.  The bus departure time is 2:10pm.  Those not competing today – practice begins at the regular time —  3:00 pm.
    Congratulations to boys varsity tennis Tyler Garland, Reagan Walsh & Collin Anthony for singles wins at OLE yesterday. Also, Nathan Schmidt with Reagan won #1 doubles 9-1. The best come back of the year goes to Collin Anthony.  Collin was down 8-3, triple match point and won 9-8 (7-4) in the tiebreaker. Good luck today against SMN here at NW at 3:30.

    Any junior boy who is interested in trying out for basketball next season will need to attend a meeting Friday – tomorrow morning – at 7:20am in room 228.  We will be outlining our summer workouts.  If you are planning on playing you need to attend the meeting tomorrow morning.
    SMNW girls soccer joins ONW for the annual PINK OUT night with SMNW proceeds donated to Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer.  The girl’s soccer teams will be selling goodies in the mall next Monday and Tuesday during lunch for a $1 donation.  The girls C team plays Olathe NW at Olathe NW high school on Monday, April 27 at 5:00 pm and Tuesday, April 28 and the girls JV and Varsity soccer teams play Olathe NW at CBAC at 5:00 and 7:00 pm.   Please support the soccer teams and the fight against breast cancer by donating and getting a baked goody and come out to the Monday and Tuesday night games PLUS  wear your PINK and/or SMNW ORANGE.

     

    Clubs
    Young Republicans will be meeting tomorrow at 7:10 in room 120.  It is one of the last meetings of the year and if you are interested in a spot on next years executive board, plan on attending this meeting.

    Girl effect will be meeting today after school in room 204. There will be plenty of food so bring a friend, everyone is welcome. Let’s empower girls globally.
    Did you know that May 1st is International Worker’s Day. Come be part of change. There will be a joint Young Democrats-Young Democratic Socialists Meeting in room 126 after school at 2:50. We are planning the May 1st rally.  Join us.
