    1-12-15 Announcements

    Attention all musicians, KUGR is looking for a musical act for the upcoming seminar show. If you play an instrument, sing and are interested in performing an original song as an acoustic version, come to Room 153 before or after school to sign up. You must sign up TODAY, Jan. 12, to be considered. Tryouts will be held later this week.

     

    Those students attending JCCC Competitive Technology Events next Thursday need to have your field trip forms turned in TODAY, Jan. 12, to Berg, Massy, Dent or Swarner.

     

    Attention Upperclassmen: Do you have old AP, ACT, or SAT test prep books that you no longer need? If so, please bring them to the shelf in front of the library conference room windows. National Honor Society is collecting these books for younger students. If you need a test prep book, feel free to check out the shelf in the library and take what you need.

     

    Student when you enter or exit the school during school hours, 7:40 a.m. and 2:40 p.m., you will need to use the main west doors and you must have your student ID ready to show security officer Sanchez. All other doors will be used for emergency exits only during the school day.  If you do not have a student ID, come to the office and get one.

     

    Counseling:

    There will be no schedule changes in January.  The deadline for second semester schedule changes was on Dec. 19.

     

    Athletics:

    Those interested in girls swimming we will be starting conditioning this week on Tuesday. Meet in the hallway between the pool and Auxiliary Gym. We will start at 3 p.m..

     

     

    Congratulations to the Cougar wrestlers, for their 5th Place team finish Saturday in the Bonner Springs Tournament.  7 out of the 10 wrestlers placed as the team racked up 127.5 points. Zack Newcomb won the individual championship at 195, Jerad Habben, Tyler Tummons and Adam Vanausdall were runners-up and DeVonte Smith, Trevor Rine, and Trenton Smith placed 3rd.  Wednesday we have our first home dual of the season followed by the 13th annual JV Invitational on Saturday and our little kids on Sunday.  If anyone needs community service hours, see Coach Newcomb sometime this week.  GO COUGARS!!!

    Attention Robotics Team: Week two of the build season begins today after school in Room C. See you there!

     

    Categories will meet tonight – this is the last competition of the season. We meet after school then go to Arrowhead at 3:30 p.m. Mrs. Morrison has the team shirts if you forgot yours. Stop by during the day and let her know that you are planning to attend. Seniors will get priority for this last competition so if you were waiting until now – your time has arrived. Categories will also be choosing their WPA candidate. Categories – tonight!

     

    Do you wish could help decide on game themes or that you were more involved? Well wish no longer because Spirit Club is starting up again tomorrow at 7:10 a.m. in the Little Theater! DON’T forget that donuts will be served! See you tomorrow morning!

     

    This past weekend, 45 schools and 150 teams competed at the Novice State Championship Tournament to determine who the best first year debaters in Kansas are this year.  The debaters performance was outstanding.  Klaryssa Vincent placed 8th overall speaker and Julian Kuffour was the 7th overall best speaker. As teams, the partnership of Abigail Terrell and Brendan Davison placed 9th, Maddison Hugeback and Klaryssa Vincent placed 5th, and the team of Mihir Shroff and Julian Kuffour made it to the Final debate, and took 2nd place at Novice State.  As an overall squad, Northwest took 1st place out of the 45 schools entered in the Novice State Tournament.  Outstanding season novice debaters.
