    Seniors:  Balfour will be in front of the Auditorium today 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and tomorrow 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. to take orders and money for cap and gowns and any other graduation items you may want to order.  You received a packet in your senior English class earlier last week but if you did not receive a packet see Ms. Nick the Counseling secretary.   ALL SENIORS MUST ORDER AT LEAST A CAP AND GOWN TO MARCH IN COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY!!!!!!

    Do you like playing the guitar?  Are you interesting in being around other people who play guitar?  Are you interesting in learning new guitar playing skills?  The Guitar Club is meeting tomorrow after school in Room 216. So, grab your guitar and come on up and join in the Guitar Club!

    The Robotics team will have a meeting after school today in Room C. Any team members participating in the Cow Town Throwdown event this weekend needs to attend.

    All this week SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is hosting activities for Red Ribbon Week . Stop by the lunch table that SADD and StuCo students have in the mall for students and staff to pledge to be “drug free”. Today is HAWAIIAN Day so “Lei” off drugs since you are too bright!!Be sure to PINK OUT on Thursday since Drugs stink so Wear Pink! (And support Breast Cancer Awareness, too!) AND Friday will be ORANGE/BLACK COUGAR CRAZIE Day so don’t be scared to be drug-free.  Always remember to LOVE YOURSELF, BE DRUG FREE!

    Anyone participating in Youth and Government this year needs to plan to attend Thursday’s mandatory meeting at Indian creek from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.  Any Youth and Government participants with questions please see Mrs. LaMourie in Room 122.

    Do you want to know what happens when a man eating plant comes to your town? Come see Little Shop of Horrors Oct. 30, 3, and Nov. 1.  Tickets are $10 or free with activity pass. Make sure you bring a canned food item!

    Do you have a friend in Little Shop of Horrors? Would you like to write them a note that will be put in the program?? Come buy a break a leg for only $6 or four for $20 by today! See Ms. Rodgers or Elizabeth McElroy to reserve your space and dictate your note.

    Do you have a talent that you’d like to share with Northwest?  If so, come to Room 132 to sign up for the Annual Talent Show! Tryouts are today and tomorrow, but you must sign up to participate.  See Hope Medis or Katie Springer with questions!

    Final days of the “going out of business” library store sale!  This is your final chance to get orange and black Dr Seuss-like hats…only 3 left; pens (blue and black) are 2 for .50; yellow highlighters, .50; notebook paper and spirals and more.  Stop by the library before it is gone!

    Nov. 6 during seminar Kansas City Art Institute is coming to Room A. If interested in learning more about this local art institute, please get a pass from your art teacher or see Ms. Terryberry.

    Attention 5th Hours – get ready for the Canned Food Drive class competition coming up Nov. 3-7!  Start planning your strategy to bring in the MOST cans and cash for the Johnson County!

    Adopt a Tot is just around the corner so 4th hours start planning to support the Head Start of Shawnee Mission and provide holiday gifts for local families.

    The Annual Mother Son, Father Daughter Dance is coming up for juniors and seniors Nov. 8!  Bring your parents for a Time Warp night!  Proceeds go to the Johnson County Christmas Bureau.

    Attention Seniors – Nov. 1 is the deadline for submitting a college application in order to be considered for scholarships for KU and K-State.  November 1 is also the deadline to apply for the KU Honors Program.

    The search is on to find our top youth volunteer. If selected, you could receive $1,000, a silver medallion, and a trip to Washington, D.C., next May. If you feel you’ve made a positive difference through a volunteer activity during the past year, visit spirit.prudential.com to apply. Deadline to apply is Nov. 4.

    There will be a meeting for all boys interested in the Swim and Dive team 2014-2015, Nov. 4th at 3pm in room 223.  If you cannot attend please talk to Coach Summers by next Tuesday.

    This is a reminder that the boys varsity soccer team will play for the regional championship on Thursday! Opponent:  Olathe NW.   Time:  7:00 p.m.   Location:  SMAC. Come out & ROCK the Cougar Cauldron, cheer the boys onto victory against their in season rival, The Ravens!

    If you are planning on going to a post season Athletic event, you must pay to get in.  These are Kansas State High School sponsored events.  Soccer will play Thursday, 10/30 at the soccer complex against Olathe NW at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $5 for adults & $4 for students.

    Cross Country will compete Friday in the State Cross Country meet at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence. The cost is $8 for adults & $6 for students. There will be a Spirit Bus to the Cross Country meet so interested students need to get a field trip form from the office, complete the form AND sign up to ride the bus by Thursday.

    If you plan on signing a letter of intent to play college sports Nov. 12 please see Mrs. Horseman or Angelo Giacalone in the athletic office ASAP.

    Attention Juniors and Seniors-The Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Latinos of Tomorrow, and SMSD announces the 11th annual BizFest scheduled for Feb. 11-14. One hundred students are selected from around the KC Metro area to participate in this “entrepreneurial boot camp”.  The top three winners at KC BizFest will receive scholarship dollars applicable to a college/university of their choice. The fourth, fifth and sixth place winners will receive checks to be used to further their educational endeavors. Applications are due Nov. 25. Please see your academic counselor for more information.

    We know Halloween is this week, but this is a reminder to all students that no costumes, masks or face paint are allowed at school.

    If you ordered Yearbook picture packets, the second delivery has arrived and you can pick up you packets in the office.
