    Academic Decathlon meets Tuesday and Wednesday this week in Room 241!

     

    The movie of the month is “Mean Girls” meet in Room 105 today during third lunch.

     

    The Debate squad found a lot of success at the SM North JV Debate Tournament this past weekend. Congrats to Ashton Hess and Klaryssa Vincent who took 9th place, Mihir Shroff and Julian Kuffour who took 8th place, while Rozlyn Wohler and Drew Winter who placed 2nd.  Great job Cougar Debaters.

    Do you have an eye for photography? If so, come to the new photo club, starting this Oct. 16 after school in Room 7.  We’ll be going on photo shoots, have group critiques & fun contests with great prizes.  There will be food so come hungry! Questions? Contact Sarah Komer or Reagan Key via Ms. Heaton in Room 7.

    Hey seniors!  A sign-up sheet has been posted right outside of room 151 for anyone who has not gotten their picture taken for the yearbook yet.  A picture day for both seniors and underclassmen will be held Oct. 16, so make sure to sign up as soon as possible. This is also you ONLY chance to get a retake, if desired. Just remember to sign up outside of Room 151 this week!

     

    The girls’ tennis season ended Saturday at the strongest region in the state. Northwest and Coach Clow are very proud of how our team played and for their good sportsmanship. Great season, Carli Sommerla, Brooke Bennett, Carley Olson, Tammera Horton, Colleen Freeman & Lexy Drummond, you are the best!

     

    Varsity Gymnastics Team placed 4th of 11 teams in the Sunflower League Tournament on Oct. 11. The top Cougars were: Carson Wapp – earning a  6th place medal on balance beam, Leah Steinacker, placed 10th on floor exercise, and 11th in All Around. Congratulations Cougar Gymnasts!

     

    Seniors ONLY: Would you like FREE professional training to improve your ACT score!? If you have taken the test before and scored a 20 – 24 then you are eligible to sign up for the free test prep offered this Oct 15. While everyone else is testing you can be preparing. The course is here at school from 7:40 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Space is limited. See Mrs. Nick in the counseling office to sign up. Breakfast treats will be served.

     

    The SM College Clinic will be held this Oct. 15 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at SM East High School. Over 200 Colleges will have representatives available to talk with you.  For more information, go to smsd.org.

    Oct. 15

    Special activities have been planned for each grade level on Wednesday. Please note that all juniors , sophomores, and freshmen are required to attend school all day; the activities are not optional.  Students who attend Broadmoor and NJROTC students are required to be in attendance at Northwest during the morning.  Only the seniors have an option for staying at home until 11:10 a.m.  There will not be a late bus run, only the regularly scheduled bus run.  Freshmen and Sophomores must bring their laptops. All students who are taking a test must bring a number 2 pencil, no mechanical pencils.

     

    Freshmen

    All freshmen are required to report to school at 7:40 a.m. Room assignments for all freshmen will be posted on the glass at the east and west entries. They will be participating in the following activities:

    1.          Interest Inventory
    2.          Developing a 4-Year Plan
    3.          Viewing a presentation on Bullying/Harassment

    Sophomores

    All sophomores are required to report to school at 7:40 a.m.  They will be taking the PLAN test.  PLAN room assignments for all sophomores will be posted on the glass at the east and west entries.

    Juniors

    All juniors are required to report to school at 7:40 a.m. to take either the PSAT or a practice ACT. Juniors who do not sign up to take the PSAT will automatically be assigned to take the practice ACT.  No sign-up is required for taking the practice ACT.  PSAT room assignments for juniors will be posted on the glass at the east and west entries.  Juniors who are taking the practice ACT will report to the auxiliary gym.

    Seniors

    Seniors may take a practice ACT or participate in an ACT review session or stay at home.  Seniors who wish to take the practice ACT or the ACT review session must sign up in the office and report to school at 7:40 a.m.  Seniors taking the practice ACT will report to the auxiliary gym.  Seniors taking the ACT review session will report to Room 12.  Seniors who choose to stay home must report to school at 11:10 a.m.
