    If you would like to be a part of SADD – Students Against Destructive Decisions – we want you!  Please come to the October informational meeting TODAY after school in Room 132 to talk about Chain of Life and Red Ribbon Week.  We hope to see you there!

    What would you do if you knew you had the power to make a difference in the world? Help us bring back Girl Effect, where you can connect to people in other countries and make a lasting impact in your community. Ensure education, security, and citizenship for girls all over the world. Check out our first meeting tomorrow, Thursday Oct. at 7 before school. Boys are invited too; it’s not just for girls.
    Do you have an eye for photography?  If so, come to the new photo club, starting Thursday, October 16th after school in room 7.  We’ll be going on photo shoots, have group critiques & fun contests with great prizes.  There will be food so come hungry!!! Questions? Contact Sarah Komer or Reagan Key via Ms. Heaton in room 7.
    Hey seniors!  A sign-up sheet has been posted right outside of room 151 for anyone who has not gotten their picture taken for the yearbook yet.  A picture day for both seniors and underclassmen will be held October 16th so make sure to sign up as soon as possible.  This is also you ONLY chance to get a retake, if desired.  Just remember to sign up outside of room 151 this week!

    Last night the boys varsity soccer team tied the Olathe Northwest Ravens 2-2 with goals scored by Seth Bowman and Nate Jones.  Tomorrow is senior night for the soccer boys at SMAC at 7:00.  We take on the Pioneers at Leavenworth and we will celebrate the soccer careers of our 10 senior athletes at halftime.   Come out and watch us play.

    The Cougar JV Gymnasts placed 2nd of 10 teams in the JV Invitational Meet at Olathe South yesterday. Freshman, Sarah Wilcox, won the floor exercise and NW earned a total of eight medals.  The team score was a season high of 82.65.  Way to go JV Gymnasts!  Some of the Varsity team compete tomorrow at SM South in the All Around Invitational at 5:30.

    Northwest will  host the Sunflower League Gymnastics Championships at 11:00 on Saturday, Oct 11.   Please come to this meet to see our Cougar Gymnasts take on the 10 other teams in this area.  Cost is $7.00 for adults, and $5.00 for students with their ID.

    Juniors and sophomores planning to take the PSAT—
    Registration ends this week on Thursday for juniors and on Friday for sophomores.  Don’t miss out on an important opportunity to help you decide which college entrance test you should take.  Also, juniors, remember that taking the PSAT this year is the only way to be entered in the various National Merit Scholarship Competitions.  To register, bring your cash or check to the counseling secretary during lunch or before or after school during the next three days.  The price is $17.00 for juniors and $20.00 for sophomores.

    If you’re a senior who would like to get some practice with the ACT before taking the real test, you may take a free practice ACT here at Northwest on Wednesday, October 15. You need to sign up with Mrs. Nick in the office this week to reserve your test.

    There will be an ACT test prep seminar at NW this Sunday Oct.  12th. It will be in the cafeteria and will run from 12:30 to 6:00 pm.  The cost is $79.99.  Students can register atwww.doorwaytocollege.com<http://www.doorwaytocollege.com> or by calling 1-877-927-8378.  The ZAPS company has changed their name to Doorway to College.

    The Shawnee Mission College Clinic will be held on Wednesday, October 15 from 6:30-8:30 pm at Shawnee Mission East High School.  Over 200 Colleges will have representatives available to talk with you.  For more information, go to smsd.org.
