StuCo to hold annual Sleep-In-A-Box fundraiser

Junior Carly Olsen is in charge of this year’s Sleep-In-A-Box for Student Council (StuCo). Check in time is 8 to 10 p.m. April 21 on the track; depending on weather it could

be moved to the gym. Clubs like CCC, Interact, NHS, varsity drill team and StuCo participate. The money goes to Shalom House, a charity for homeless men in Kansas City. This event provides 40 percent of their proceeds. Some of the men usually come and give talks about their experience with Shalom House.

“Their talks were interesting,” Olsen said. “Just the way helped their quality of life. It’s humbling and it makes the kids think again why they’re doing this for this charity and these people. It’s definitely a benefit to have them there and we’re excited for them to come back.”

Students are required to bring their own box from home, Lowes, Home Depot, or Nebraska Furniture Mart. Students are reminded that if there is a change in weather they will be moved to the gym, and they are advised to bring coats, hats, blankets and pillows if desired.
