Orchestra to Perform Winter Concert
November 30, 2013
Program of Dec. 5 orchestra concert:
Freshmen & String Ensemble:
Dance Diabolique……………………………………………………………………….Jared Spears
“I like how they have the accents in that one.” – violist Bailey Wendel
Brevard Sketches……………………………………………………………………….Elliot Del Borgo
“Brevard has some really tricky parts, but it’s also really fun to play, especially because we don’t see very many tricky parts in the viola section.” – Wendel
Rock You Merry Gentlemen……………………………………………………………………….Jeffrey S. Bishop
“They’ll have fun. We always try to put, the last song of each orchestra is something fun or happy or peppy. So the Rock you Merry Gentlemen will be fun for the freshmen and String Ensemble kids, Waltz of the Wicked is fun for Camerata.” – director Jeffrey Bishop
Camerata
Mock Morris……………………………………………………………………….Percy Aldridge Grainger (arr. Sandra – Dackow)
” Mock Morris. It’s an entertaining song to play, its very crazy as in from the composer.” – violist Santana Yusof
Capriol……………………………………………………………………….Peter Warlock
“Capriol just stands out to me because there are different kinds of elements to it. The first song is pretty intense and then it slows down and it gets kind of sweet but then it’s also kind of like mysterious at the same time. And then gets tense again.” -violinist Reagan Almos
Waltz of the Wicked……………………………………………………………………….Kirt N. Mosier
“Waltz of the Wicked is just kind of like intense all the way through and it’s just so much from the play because it’s just quick and it’s just has this like kind of evil sound to it. And I don’t know it’s just a really fun piece to play, both of them are.” – violinist Reagan Almos
Chambers
Elegy (In Memory of Bill Warren (1930-2013)) …………………………….Ben Huddleston
“My is definitely the elegy that Ben Huddleston did. Because it’s beautiful and everything he put together in it flows really well and you can be very expressive and I like that a lot.” violist Amelia Hoelting
American Reel……………………………………………………………………….Kirt N. Mosier
“American Reel’s really fun. It’s long, but it’s fun.” – violinist Julia Davis
As Summer Was Just Beginning……………………………………………………………………….Larry Daehn
(elegy written in honor of James Dean, the old fifties movie star)
“As Summer Was Just Beginning – it’s really pretty and they have viola solos, which never happen. – Davis
Music from Ratatouille……………………………………………………………………….Michael Giacchino
“My favorite is probably Ratatouille. It’s fun. Because pretty much everything composed by that composer is awesome. And it’s a good movie.” – Davis
