Winter Break Advent Calendar 2020

Looking for a fun way to spend your winter break? Check out this winter advent calendar filled with fun, COVOD-19 friendly activities.

During this holiday season, the SMNW newspaper staff is giving away a $25 gift card! All you need to do to enter this drawing is take a picture of at least one of the activities listed on the holiday advent calendar (your name can be entered up to once a day if you participate in all events)! More information about the contents of each photograph will be provided each day. To submit the photos tag our Instagram account ( @smnwdotcom )! All photos must be submitted by 7:40 AM on Jan 5. Candy Cane Lane is a cul-de-sac in Prairie Village, Kansas where every single house is illuminated with incredible Christmas lights. It's nickname comes from the several Candy Canes that light up the street. It is located at 7900 Outlook LN, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Below are two fountains located on the plaza! Within these photos are clues to help you find them (take time looking at each photo). Christmas in the Park

Between Nov 25 and Jan 2 Christmas in the Park, an outstanding display with over 500,000 lights, is free to visit at Longview Lake. This park, located at 3901 SW Longview Rd, Lee's Summit, MO 64081, has been offering this attraction for 33 years! It’s well worth the trip.

Union Station

From 10 AM to 3 PM and 4 PM to 8 PM go visit the Holiday Reflections walk through village at Union Station! Take a photo anywhere in the building and remember to tag us! $5 general admission. Remember to bring a mask and stay safe!

Ugly Sweater Challenge

Put on your ugliest sweater and get outside! Go to your local library or bookstore and find a copy of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Take a photo with that book in your wackiest pose! Remember your masks!

Stupid Movie Marathon

Stay up late and witness the arrival of 2021 while watching a marathon of the stupidest movies you can find. Some examples are Airplane, Flash Gordon and Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail.

Ice Skating at Crown Center

Visit the Crown Center Ice Terrace from 10 AM to 11 PM and spend your day ice skating as well as enjoying the Crown Center shopping area! Make sure to stop by the mayor’s tree (picture below) and take a quick selfie to be entered in the Holiday Give Away! Remember to tag us!
