The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) released a statement over the results of their executive board vote against a postponement proposal July 28. The board voted 5-4 against moving back the start date of athletics, stating that all athletic activities will be able to start at their originally scheduled dates.
The decision means practices will begin Aug. 17, and competitions will start Aug. 21 for girls golf and girls tennis, Aug. 28 for boys soccer and girls volleyball, Sept. 2 for football and cross country and Sept. 4 for gymnastics.
“Local school districts retain the right to modify the start dates for practice or competition based on their local and county health recommendations,” the statement reads.
