The varsity baseball team beat SM South 6-0 at the 3&2 Baseball Stadium March 31.
Pitcher Jared Marolf did not allow a single run as the first inning ended with neither team scoring. The Cougars led 1-0 by the bottom of the second inning after junior Dylan Dirks and senior Brett Ferencz score RBIs.
In the top the third, senior Casey Kelley brought the score to 2-0 with a homerun. Kelley collected two additional hits and three more runs.
With hits from junior Matthew Drummond, Dirks and Ferencz, the Cougars were up 4-0 by the top of the sixth.
First baseman Ferencz saved a run from SM South, while outfielder Nathan Reeder collected the second hit of the game and Kelley scored a third RBI. Cougars lead by 5-0.
The final run of the game came from a sacrifice fly by Drummond, bringing the score to 6-0. After six innings, Marolf had not allowed for a single run and only three hits.
“The boys are playing well thus far,” head coach Domenic Mussat said. “Always nice to have as many fans out there as possible.”
The Cougars remain undefeated after their second game of the season, and will be playing Olathe East today at 7 p.m. at the 3&2 baseball stadium.
