Head baseball coach Domenic Mussat picked up his first win as head coach after the varsity baseball team beat SM East 7-1.
After the Cougars (1-0) scored on a wild pitch in the second inning, the team never turned back. Catcher Garrett Stephens led the team going 3-for-3 on the day. Senior Brandon Gomer pitched four scoreless innings with eight strike outs and only allowed two hits. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Outfielder Nate Reeder hit a two-run double to put the team up 4-1. Jared Marolf and Brennon Covington pitched the last three innings. In the seventh inning, Shortstop Paul Bachelor hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 6-1. 3rd Base Dylan Nedved drove home a run on his second hit of the day to help the Cougars get a 7-1 lead.
The Cougars’ next game is against SM South on Tuesday at 3&2 Field 1.
