The 3rd annual drive will collect personal care items for the homeless
Student Council is organizing the 3rd annual Care for the Community Drive for the homeless in the Kansas City Metro area.
The items gathered during the drive will be donated to Marcia Merrick has dedicated her life to helping the homeless and provides more than 400 meals per day to people throughout the Kansas City area.
“She doesn’t get any money from doing this. Her life’s work is funded by donations,” Care for the Community Drive chairman Ben Johnson said. “She’s literally a saint.”
Fifth hour classes will compete to bring in the greatest number of travel-sized, personal care items including toothpaste, lotion, soap and hair products. Like the fall Canned Food Drive, the winning class will be determined by the average number of item donated per person in the class and the winner will receive a pizza party.
According to Johnson, the goal is to bring in a total of 3,000 items.
