Shawnee Mission Northwest varsity football played their first game of the season Sept. 4. They played against Mill Valley and lost 25-56.
“There’s a lot of things we can improve on,” Head coach Kurt Webster said. “But for the most part our effort was good.”
Senior Nathan Novacky is the starting quarterback this year. He had good reads and threw the ball in their two minute drive where they converted with a field goal.
Junior Jaydence Martinez scored all three touchdowns against Mill Valley, offense mostly ran the ball.
“We just played a really good football team and we played really well for stretches of it and had some opportunities right out of half time,” Webster said. “If we would have executed better we would have been alright, but things kinda snow balled on us and we’re a young team and we’re gonna get better from it.”
Their next game will be Friday, Sept. 11, at Raymore-Peculiar high school against Raymore-Peculiar.
