Soccer Senior Night ends in a 1-1 tie

The cauldron was packed for Senior Night against Olathe South as all of the boys soccer varsity seniors started and fought hard, ending in a double over-time game tied 1-1.“I had been looking forward to this night for the last two years,” senior Adam Zoellner said. “I came out and really focused, and I think it showed in my performance.”

With emotions running high, a strong defense led by senior captain Jon Sestak along with several saves by senior goalie Matt Humphrey kept the game tied 0-0 through half-time.

“(Senior Night) meant a lot. I’ve been here for four years and I’ve seen all of the seniors do it before me,” senior Kyle Moore said.

The Cougars’ only goal came in the 43rd  minute from senior Zach Bundy who shot to the right side upper 90 from just outside the top right corner of the box. Another goal put in by senior Alec Kremers but was called back for offsides. OS scored in the 47th minute.

“We came out and worked awfully hard, and played 100 minutes awfully hard, and it was just a well-fought game,” Coach Boren said.

A shot went off of the cross bar, was put back at to the goalie-less net but hit a defender on the way through.

Olathe South had a majority of the free kick opportunities, but the Cougars were able to defend against them all.

“It was just the last game I will play at SMAC and it will be really memorable,” senior Jon Sestak said. All of the seniors were excited to come out and play tonight because it is the last home game of their high school career.

The Cougars’ next game is against Olathe East Thursday at SMAC.
